Axolotl,Julio Cortazar

I have read “Axolotl” that it was written by Julio Cortazar

This short story is so different and it has important concepts about human, nature and philosophy. It has ontological and philosophical aspects such as showing limited power, potential, time- placed bound. One of lizard´s living environment, land, has been taken away from him and the other habitat, water, has been limited! We know Axolotl is amphibians. This story has something to say

We don´t know, why the main character was attracted to this lizard

maybe it due to various factors for example for writing his story. He put himself in subject´s shoes. The important issue to write story about others is to sympathize with them. This lesson always was said by famous writers to new writer. This story is a practical exercise to write a good and effective story

On the other hands the main character was so alone. Loneliness was the biggest problem for human. Or he like these creatures so much. And he found some similarities between himself and them. Or he had many problems and he saw himself like those lizards trapped in a dark and small space without move. Or the man had a critical mind toward the world, the political condition, time- placed bound and so on. He couldn´t accept his limitation as a human in the society or in the world. The aquarium was symbol of the  or world or society

When the man searched about the root of the name of these animals, he reached to Aztec. This word maybe referred to Aztec civilization and the people who lived in the middle of south America. The limited life these lizards in the aquarium may have been symbol of the hard life and suffocation of that people

The man got so close to the lizard that he found himself as a lizard and the lizard as an writer. Finally we don´t know his body .  has also changed or not

All of theses reasons pushed him to became a lizard

This story reminded me Saedi´s story, the cow, that the film was also made a few years later. In this movie the poor man transformed to cow finally because his cow was all his life. When his cow died, he lost his mind as a human and thought like the cow

Another story that it has close atmosphere to this story is “metamorphosis” that it was written by Kafka. We face to amazing allegorical story. The son of the family try to pay back his father debts. He went on business trips all the time. He lived like a machine not human. One day he woke up and realized that his body has changed into a big insect. So he lost his physical body not his mind. His body was symbol of leaving human life. The story try to criticize the industrial society. His family saw him as a working machine and money maker, not human

There are some similarities and differences between in these stories and all of them try to  show diffrent of aspects of our limited life
